Project Description
Involute gears for power transmission have typically been manufactured with specialized expensive machines. Exploring gear manufacture and validation with on-campus CNC machines as available and benchmarking against traditional hobbing and shaping, a student will design, manufacture, harden, and test steel gears, and report results on overall cost/performance.
Prerequisites
CAD, Solidworks preferred, mechanical assembly, measurement and instrumentation.
Compensation
This is a paid position at $13/hour up to a maximum of $1,820 for the IAP period. The intern should be able to commit to working 20 to 40 hours per week over the course of IAP, from January 4 through January 29, 2021.
