Publications Intern (Grad or Undergrad)

The MIT Practical Impact Alliance (PIA), launched by D-Lab in 2015, is a network of corporations, international NGOs, and social ventures fostering collaborative action and shared learning around market-driven solutions to global poverty issues. Working groups, with topics selected by members and facilitated by D-Lab, are a core PIA activity. Through monthly case presentations and discussions, PIA working groups address a knowledge gap in the field; D-Lab then generates relevant, practical, publicly-available, tools for practitioners based on the work of each group.

PIA is currently looking for a fall 2016 intern who will be an integral part of the team that produces PIA working group publications and tools. The intern will contribute to the development of outputs for all four working groups:

  • Pilots to Scale
  • Measuring Impact
  • Participatory Design & Innovation
  • Inclusive Recycling

The intern will have the opportunity to learn from and interact with representatives of leading organizations committed to inclusive business and international development. The ideal candidate will be interested in learning about these working group themes and organizations, and applying analytical and writing skills to this creative, collaborative process of generating practical tools and publications.

Key responsibilities

  • help define templates for case analysis
  • congtribute to case anlaysis
  • draft case write-ups
  • conduct additional desk research
  • have follow-up conversations/interviews with case presenters
  • contribute to writing the publications

10-12 weeks

Level of effort
10-15 hours/week

Compensation
$15/hour

Qualifications
Graduate student preferred; undergraduates will be considered if experience and interests demonstrate a compelling fit. Applicant should be studying business, humanities, social sciences, or international relations and have interest in inclusive business and international development, strong analytical and written communication skills, and strong organizational and time-management skills. Experience conducting interviews would be a plus.
