Gwyn came to D-Lab in 2005 as a volunteer to advise on pedal powered solutions to basic needs in the developing world. He arrived at D-Lab with 12 years in engineering and product design at Merlin Metalworks, a company he founded for the manufacture of high-end bicycle frames. He developed and teaches D-Lab: Cycle Ventures, which explores human powered bicycle technology for purposes including water pumping, grain milling and load transport in underserved communities. Gwyn has worked on a range of engineering projects for the developing world, largely, but not exclusively, in energy and agriculture, and has an ongoing rickshaw project with a partner in Assam, India.
