Kate first met D-Lab founder and co-director Amy Smith, when Amy was Kate's teaching assistant for "Mechanics and Materials" at MIT in the early 1990s. Years later, when Kate responded to a pitch for Sloan School of Management students to think about giving something back to the Institute, Kate got back in touch with Amy to discuss ways of getting involved at D-Lab. As a result, Kate joined Harald Quintus-Bosz and Eric Reynolds to develop and co-teach the D-Lab: Design for Scale course, first offered in the fall of 2013.
Kate has almost 20 years of industry experience in high volume consumer electronics and manufacturing domestically and abroad. Her extensive experience in the commercial world and bringing products to market brings an industry viewpoint to D-Lab.
In addition to her work at D-Lab, Kate is an executive at a large corporation in Silicon Valley, CA. She has an SB from MIT, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado - Boulder, and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
