Gregory Sixt

Dr. Gregory Sixt is a Research Scientist at MIT’s Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS), where he serves as Director of Research for Food and Climate Systems. He is also Director of the J-WAFS-led Food and Climate Systems Transformation (FACT) Alliance––global research network focused on shortening the link between research and action. Dr. Sixt is project lead for the Jameel Index for Food Trade and Vulnerability and leads research on social-ecological systems transitions. He holds lecturer appointments with MIT D-Lab and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, in Vienna, Austria (BOKU University), and is an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Oxford. 

Prior to joining MIT, he worked at the US Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) in the Institute of Bioenergy, Climate, and Environment and the Center for International Programs. Dr. Sixt has consulted for NGOs, governments, and international development organizations as a subject matter expert on agricultural knowledge and innovation systems, water governance, food systems transformation, and the climate-food systems nexus. 

He holds a PhD in Agriculture, Food, and Environment and Water Diplomacy from The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
