Josh Maldonado, MIT ‘23, is a skilled mechanical engineer with a passion for designing innovative solutions in developing nations and unlocking sustainable resources. Currently, he is a mechanical engineer at change:WATER Labs, which is a clean tech company developing a low-cost, compact, waterless toilet for non-sewered households and communities. His role at cWL includes mechanical and sensor design, data collection and analysis, and project management of their pilot in the rural part of Panama City, Panama
While a student at MIT, Josh was heavily engaged with D-Lab, where, among many other projects, he spearheaded research initiative designing and installing sustainable technology solutions for rural chicken farmers in Cameroon and assisted with the development of the D-Lab Build Your Own Bike class, creating a CAD bike model that was used as a blueprint for students, and custom building bikes using rapid prototyping techniques resulting in the lab acquiring recognition as a bike manufacturer.
