William Kamkwamba, the boy who harnessed the wind

Young Malawian William Kamkwamba was 14 years old when he taught himself how to build a windmill from spare parts and scrap. He borrowed an energy book from a library, where he found the rough plans to put together an electricity generator to harness the energy from the wind, and provide energy to power lights and radio for his family home. D-Lab is proud to invite William Kamkwamba to give a very special lecture at MIT, with support from the Edgerton Center and the MIT Technology and Culture Forum. The talk will be on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009, at 7pm in room 6-120.
